aspirations

Go to the website http://www.achievement.org/find-my-role-model

Complete the fill in the blank exercise on the website and select 2-3 people that you want to learn more about.

By clicking on any of the pictures provided on the website after you answer the fill in the blank questions, you will see an extensive biography of the person you selected. Think about the journal prompts below as you read the biographies. If all of your questions are not answered, you may have to do some additional online research.

Once you finish reviewing the biographies of the individuals you selected, answer the following questions in your journal for each individual you selected.

Journal prompts:
  1. Who did you select as a role model?
  2. Why did you select this person as a role model?
  3. What qualities does your selected role model have that you admire?
    1. Do you have any of these qualities? If so, which ones?
    2. Are there any qualities you wish you had but don’t feel you possess? If so, which ones?
  4. If you met this person when they were the same age you are now, do you think you would be friends? Why or why not?
  5. If you could interview this person, what questions would you ask them?

person of the year

You will be selecting a “Person of the Year” by identifying the person who had the greatest effect on your life over the course of the past year.

STEP 1:
Write down several ideas for people who have influenced your life over the course of the last year. Identify:
  • People, groups, or objects that influenced your life
  • How was your life influenced by each person, group, or object you identified
  • How did that person or group’s actions make you feel?

STEP 2:
Select only one person, group, or object. After conducting research on your selected person, you will be writing a feature article on the person you selected. Your article will need to:
  • Justify why you chose that specific person, group, or object
  • Articulate how that person, group, or object was the most influential external factor in your life over the course of the last year
  • Be evidenced based: Using collected information about the person (e.g. interview data, published information, identify factual events that can be addressed through quantitative or qualitative data collection, etc.)
  • Utilize conventions from the field of journalism to collect content and create a magazine article worthy of publication
  • Utilize conventions from the field of graphic design to create a magazine cover layout that is visually appealing and will entice readers
